Lorain County JVS to Observe Patriot Day with Ceremony to Remember, Reflect, and Unite
Lorain County JVS will host a Patriot Day ceremony at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025 to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and recognize the bravery and sacrifice of first responders.
Ceremony Details and Participation
The event will include the Posting of Colors by Public Safety seniors, a moment of silence, the national anthem, and remarks from Lorain County JVS Superintendent Dr. Glenn Faircloth, a U.S. Army veteran, and High School Principal, Tina Pelto.
A Powerful Memorial on Campus
The ceremony will be held at the school’s 9/11 Memorial, located at 15181 State Route 58, Oberlin. The focal point of the memorial is a 7-foot section of steel taken from a larger beam recovered from the rubble of the World Trade Center.
The beam is welded to two vertical steel supports representing the Twin Towers and is mounted at a 9.11-degree angle atop a pentagon-shaped platform — a powerful tribute to the events and locations of that tragic day.
Student Contributions in Remembrance
Surrounding the memorial, yellow mums — planted in the shape of a ribbon by students in the Landscape and Greenhouse Management program — add a thoughtful and symbolic touch. The color yellow was chosen to represent remembrance.
A Moment to Reflect
“Our 9/11 Memorial stands as a reminder of the lives lost and the resilience of our nation,” shared Dr. Faircloth. “This ceremony gives our students and larger community the opportunity to reflect, remember, and show gratitude to the heroes of that day.”
The public is welcome to attend this Patriot Day observance — a national day of remembrance held annually on September 11 to honor the lives lost and the heroes who emerged. We kindly ask that all attendees register in advance to help us prepare for the event.
